These pages are designed to describe different aspects of the AVMC and its work as a dedicated holistic veterinary practice. Our raison d’ętre is to help animals, so all our work focuses on this endeavour. We have a traditional approach to patient care, client care and professional service. We use veterinary homeopathy, veterinary acupuncture, veterinary herbal medicine (herbs, herbalism, phytotherapy), chiropractic manipulation, natural feeding and other natural holistic vet methods, to help our patients.

One-stop service for veterinary homeopathy, veterinary acupuncture, veterinary herbs, veterinary chiropractic, LASER therapy and other natural therapies.

We see dogs, cats, horses, ponies, donkeys, goats and rabbits on a frequent basis. We see farm animals such as cattle, sheep, pigs, buffalo, llamas and alpacas more rarely. Other animal species (e.g. birds, reptiles, wild animals and cage pets) are also seen but less commonly. We offer holistic veterinary care and holistic veterinary advice for each and every patient, integrating different therapies (and natural feeding advice) as required. This work includes herbal medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, LASER, chiropractic, natural feeding, holistic medicine and natural medicine. We work with local attending veterinary surgeons around the UK, setting up integrated treatment programmes. We have a video consultation service for those distant patients whose vets are willing to work with us in this way.

Horse - Pony - Dog - Cat - Cattle - Pig - Sheep - Donkey - Goat - Deer (wild) - Buffalo - Llama - Alpaca - Deer (farm) - Rabbit - Ferret - Canine - Feline - Equine

We welcome consultations at the premises for 'small animals' (dogs, cats etc.) and we make visits for horses and farm animals (and even for 'small animals' if required). We conduct clinical research (i.e. no 'animal experiments'), to develop the application of Natural Medicine for animal benefit.

Once we have embarked on a case, whether dog, cat, horse, pony or other species, we are as keen as you are to see it through to success. Please keep us well-informed of progress, so that we can respond to the patient's varying needs. We have traditional values of veterinary care and run the practice in a homely and no-frills way.

The AVMC accepts alternative medicine referrals in Veterinary Acupuncture, Veterinary Homeopathy, Veterinary Herbal Medicine, back problems in dogs, back problems in horses, back problems in cats, back problems in all species.

All cases seen by appointment only.

At the AVMC, we use no chemical herbicides, pesticides, fly sprays, artificial plant foods, deodorisers or air fresheners and our reagents used in the house and veterinary premises (cleaners and disinfectants) are natural and ecologically-friendly. Visiting animals appear to recognise and appreciate this immediately.

We have a deep respect for Nature and we work with Nature

You will also find numerous pages of information and opinion, on many subjects both central and peripheral to holistic veterinary work. We hope that you will both enjoy your visit to our site and find the information you are seeking.

At the AVMC, we have many traditional values that may be seen to be part of a fading world. We also believe in clients having a wide range of options, with freedom of choice and easy access to information, to help inform that choice.

We believe that clients should be firmly in the 'driving seat', as far as decision-making and course of action are concerned. We try to explain all procedures and medications, to the extent required by each client, thereby making informed decisions and informed consent a real possibility. We do not rush to complex, expensive or high-tech procedures or interventions as a matter of course, only suggesting them if/when they become absolutely necessary for the ongoing best interests of the patient. We believe in a decent and dignified end to a good life for our animals, which may not involve over-investigation, over-intervention etc.

Chris Day's Blog

Christopher Day has worked in the field of holistic veterinary medicine (integrated medicine) for over 38 years and is among the UK's most well-known and long-established holistic vets, acupuncture vets, herbal vets and homeopathic vets. He started using veterinary homeopathy in veterinary work in 1972. He was a founder member of the organisation for homeopathic vets (BAHVS) and set up educational structures for veterinary homeopaths (under the auspices of the Faculty of Homeopathy). He has been involved in the academic side of the training for acupuncture vets and for animal chiropractors.

At the AVMC, we try not to be 'bogged down' by terminology or ideology. Much argument accompanies discussions on nomenclature. We do not mind whether we are called holistic, complementary, alternative or natural. Likewise, it does not matter whether we are described as a herbal, homeopathic, chiropractic, acupuncture or integrated veterinary practice. The medicine we practise and the care we offer are the best we can offer, for each patient and it matters not whether this is perceived as holistic medicine, alternative medicine, complementary medicine, natural medicine, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM - CAVM) or integrated medicine. We offer traditional standards of professional care, in an integrated package.

Chris Day is mainly known for his work as an acupuncture vet, herbal vet, homeopathic vet, chiropractic vet, holistic vet and natural vet. However, he also uses a wider spectrum of natural therapies, in order to offer each patient the best of integrated care. Having met holistic methodology in his childhood, he is now among the most experienced holistic veterinarians.

These approaches represent a philosophy that is alternative to the current conventional norm of modern mainstream veterinary practice but the use of alternative therapies does not do away with the need for a thorough examination and assessment. Nor does it preclude the use of modern diagnostic techniques where necessary. A holistic vet will take into account all these things, in addition to closely scrutinising lifestyle, diet, environment, riding, tack, shoeing, grazing, stabling, management etc., depending upon the species.

AVMC - the home and practice of Chris Day - holistic vet, homeopathic vet, acupuncture vet, chiropractic vet etc. with 38 years of experience in the field of holistic veterinary care, practising integrated veterinary medicine for all species.

Herbal Acupuncture Homeopathy Chiropractic Nutrition Natural Holistic

We have a special interest in back treatment and chiropractic manipulation, whether for a horse's back problem, pony's back problem, dog's back problem or cat's back problem. This can, in some cases, also involve acupuncture and/or LASER treatment.

Although we specialise in alternative therapies (holistic therapies, natural therapies), seeking alternatives to conventional drug therapy wherever possible, so that we can stimulate the body's own healing ability, we do not shun conventional therapy, per se, considering its worth in each case. No truly holistic vet can ignore the existence of conventional drugs which, while quite unable to cure chronic disease, on rare occasions may be the only way to control distressing or painful symptoms. It is noteworthy how much the body can achieve without drugs, however. Our holistic and integrated service is offered in support of animal patients, owners and carers and the veterinary profession. We are always willing to assist vets in the UK and worldwide in providing integrated care for their patients, providing the natural therapy component of a treatment programme.

We accept no sponsorship from industry, commerce, insurance companies or any other commercial interest and we do not depend upon product or medicine sales, so our advice is truly independent and unaffected by profit motivation. Likewise, we do not promote commercial activities, so our links do not promote marketing material. We do not pay for search engine favours. Sadly, even in the holistic and natural medicine worlds, there are vets whose advice is attended by potential profits from product sales or links to companies.

Chris Day is a vet who qualified from Cambridge in 1972 and whose parents were both extremely vocational vets. He therefore studied veterinary life and veterinary medicine from a very early age. He started to use homeopathy on himself, from about ten or eleven years of age. He bought books on veterinary acupuncture and on homeopathic medicine, while at veterinary school, in 1969. He studied these and started to use vet homeopathy in his first year as a vet. Herbal medicine and acupuncture followed soon after. He became fascinated by chiropractic treatment in the mid-nineteen-seventies. All this explains his holistic approach, his dedication to patient care and his integrated use of the different therapies, each having been carefully built on the previously-studied techniques. He thus has many years of experience in the various therapies and has been brought up in an environment in which patient care was always paramount.

The AVMC offers veterinary acupuncture, veterinary homeopathy, veterinary herb medicine (veterinary phytotherapy), veterinary chiropractic-type manipulation and other 'alternative medicine' or 'natural medicine' options, in a friendly, homely and relaxed environment, generally much-appreciated by our animal visitors.
