FAQ Homeopathy

Refer to: Care & Administration of Homeopathic Medicines (.pdf file)

The faithful dog suffers a large number of diseases, many of which are similar to those in mankind. Dogs are very willing and cooperative patients, who respond positively to homeopathic treatment.

Dosing with homeopathic medicine can be done in several ways but the accompanying short video demonstrates one method.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmINHAnXqRY

Dogs will generally accept homeopathic medicines very readily, if offered as a treat, e.g. in a saucer. Many will even catch pillules that are tossed for them. Failing that, the medicines can be tossed directly into the wet part of the mouth, from the bottle cap. If a little food is necessary, then the medicines can be put in a small portion of bland food but this is not ideal. They should not be added direct to the normal meal.

The process involved in selecting a homeopathic medicine involves an exhaustive enquiry into the lifestyle and environment of the dog (the holistic approach) and sometimes lengthy discussion on the personality, history and general health of the patient, quite apart from the specific complaint that is to be treated.

Veterinary Homeopathy acts by providing an energetic stimulus to the body's endogenous healing and harmonising processes. In the above disease situations, homeopathy may be used alone by the homeopathic vet or in integrated conjunction with other therapies. It is a holistic therapy.

FAQ Homeopathy

Biographic detail: Christopher Day was one of the first holistic vets in the UK, if not the first of an emerging group, who use holistic methods to support patients in their efforts to recover. He established what was possibly the first holistic vet practice in the UK, in 1987. The son of two vets, he was brought up in the 50s and 60s with the ethic of traditional veterinary service and of putting the patient first. He studied Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Sciences at Cambridge University, qualifying in 1972. He has more than 40 years experience in natural and holistic methodology.
