Aspects of Ecology

Our environment is also our animals’ environment, and that of wild creatures too. When we damage our air, water, rivers, coastline and ground, we do it not just for ourselves but for all animals. We give some relevant topics some space here (click on the required link below).

"The air is precious to the red man, for all things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man, they all share the same breath.  "

Seathl's Testament

“Oh Great King - the birds of the air and the beasts have an equal right to live and move about in any part of this land as thou. The land belongs to the people and all other beings, and thou art only the guardian of it.”

Arahant Mahinda 250BC

"Modern man does not experience himself as a part of nature but as an outside force destined to dominate and conquer it. He even talks of a battle with nature, forgetting that, if he won the battle, he would find himself on the losing side."

E. F. Schumacher (1911 - 1977)

On a Fine Morning - Thomas Hardy (1840 - 1928)

Whence comes Solace? - Not from seeing
What is doing, suffering, being,
Not from noting Life's conditions,
Not from heeding time's monitions;
But in cleaving to the dream,
And in gazing at the gleam
Whereby gray things golden gleam.

Thus do I this heyday, holding
Shadows but as lights unfolding,
As no specious show this moment
With its iris-hued embowment;
But as nothing other than
Part of a benignant plan;
Proof that earth was made for man.
