Goat Topics & Issues

Return to Goats main page

Goats can be a mixed blessing, in the world. They are a simple and cheap animal to keep, in Third World and other poorer countries, providing milk, cheese etc. However they can be a very potent force for deforestation, erosion and desertification, which is clearly a counter-productive aspect of their husbandry, where such problems are rife.

They do well in back gardens, whether as pets or production animals. However, their gardening aspirations may differ from those of the householder! Their milk is very nutritious and appears to be suitable for those people and animals who are otherwise dairy intolerant.

Foot trimming can be a major issue. If goats are kept under conditions that do not keep their feet naturally worn, regular checking and trimming is vital.

As topics arise, they will be inserted as links on this page.
