Health Warning
Oak - Acorns
Now it's Autumn, if you have a treasured
oak tree in your garden, field or hedge, try to avoid excessive
ingestion of acorns by your horse or pony. Horses may eat a few acorns
without undue risk but can acquire an avid desire for them. Too many and
there is a risk of gastro-enteritis or even kidney damage, from the
tannin.
Keep a watch on your horse's grazing
habits and fence off an area around the oak, if too much interest is
shown.

We are pleased to welcome you to the web site of the AVMC, a centre of excellence for the provision of holistic natural medicine techniques, for the treatment of all kinds of animals.
We hope that our efforts to provide information (free of charge or obligation) will be of value to you.
This was the first
veterinary centre dedicated to Alternative Medicines in the UK (i.e. the UK's
first dedicated holistic veterinary practice) and among the first in the world.
We are centrally placed in England and offer traditional standards of
professional care. We
use
vet homeopathy, vet herbal medicine, vet acupuncture, chiropractic
manipulation, LASER, natural feeding and other natural therapies,
applied according to holistic principles,
offering an alternative approach to the conventional norm.
We accept no sponsorship from industry, commerce, insurance companies or any
other commercial interest and we do not depend upon product or medicine sales, so
our advice is truly independent and unaffected by profit motivation. Likewise,
we do not promote commercial activities, so our links do not promote marketing
material. We do not pay for search engine favours.

At the
AVMC, we try not to be
'bogged down' by terminology or ideology. Much argument accompanies discussions
on nomenclature.
Holistic, Alternative,
Natural or Complementary?
We do not mind whether we are called holistic, complementary,
alternative or natural. The medicine we use is the best we can offer, for
each patient and it matters not whether it is perceived as 'holistic medicine',
'alternative medicine', 'natural medicine', 'complementary medicine' or 'complementary and alternative
medicine' (CAM - CAVM). We do not shun conventional therapy, per se,
considering its worth in each case. It is noteworthy how much the body can
achieve without it, however.
The
Alternative Veterinary Medicine Centre
is situated in the South East (sometimes also classified as South Midlands),
about an hour from London and adjacent to the Home Counties.

These approaches represent a philosophy that is alternative to
the current conventional norm but the use of alternative therapies does not do
away with the need for a thorough examination and assessment. Nor does it
preclude the use of modern diagnostic techniques where necessary. A holistic vet
will take into account all these things, in addition to closely scrutinising
lifestyle, diet, environment, riding, tack, shoeing, grazing, stabling,
management etc., depending upon the species.

of writing, there are two link bars at the base of each page, the first
offering the pages 'beneath' the viewed page and the second offering
some common landmark pages. At the top of each page are 25 buttons
linking to various key (main) pages of the site. Each page is well
sprinkled with useful links to other relevant pages. |

We believe this site was
maliciously damaged on 30th July. We believe this may be the work of
some sick individual or organisation that is against our work in
this field. We hope we have now cleared the threat but it may not be
the end of the campaign.
