1. Approach from the Reading/Henley direction: Take the A417 to Wantage. At Wantage, go straight on at the first
mini-roundabout, as you enter the town boundary. Go straight on at the next
double mini roundabout, by the Health Centre and Cottage Hospital. Go straight
on at the next, for Town Centre. Negotiate the Market Place, leaving at the
opposite (West) end, going downhill on Mill Street. This is the old (and real)
A417, despite what all the new signage tells you! Go through E. Challow and
about 4½ miles from Wantage, you come to Stanford in the Vale. There is a car
dealer on your left. Turn right into the High Street opposite that. We are a few
hundred yards up on the right, the first large stone house, recognisable by a
low brick wall topped by white railings and a tarmac pull-in. Walk down the
drive to the office in the yard. 2. Approach from the Newbury direction: Drive Northwards on the A34 or the B4494 to Wantage. a) On the A34 route, take the Wantage run-off (A4185). Drive past the
Rutherford Laboratories on your left then downhill and turn left onto the A417,
at a mini-roundabout at Rowstock Corner. Take the A417 to Wantage. At Wantage,
go straight on at the first mini-roundabout, as you enter the town boundary. Go

on to the A417, at which you turn left. You are then 2 miles East of Stanford in
the Vale. Almost immediately, go over a railway bridge. When you come to the village, there is a car dealer on your left. Turn
right into the High Street opposite that. We are a few hundred yards up on the

white railings and a tarmac pull-in. Walk down the drive to the office in the
yard. 5. Approach from the Swindon direction: Take the A420 Eastwards to Faringdon. Turn right onto the A417, on the
Faringdon by-pass. After approx. 4 miles, you come to Stanford in the Vale.
Leave two turns into the village, on your left. Go
straight on at the roundabout. Just before leaving the village, still on the A417,

signed Pusey and Stanford in the Vale (B4508). Follow that road, through the bad bends
in Pusey Take straight on at Gainfield cross roads, then be sure to turn left
off a bad right-hander, into the village of Stanford in the Vale. Follow the
main route as it winds through the village. There is a supermarket (CO-OP) on
your left, followed by the small post-office on your right. We are very soon
after that, on your left, a large stone house, recognisable by a low brick wall
topped by white railings and a tarmac pull-in. Walk down the drive to the office
in the yard. 9. Approach from the M40, from the North or from the East a. from the North: Leave the M40 at Junction 9 and take the A34 dual carriageway Southwards. Follow the Oxford ring-road
(A34), to the West side of Oxford, being
sure to leave it at the A420 signs. This is vital and is easy to miss. Take the A420 past Cumnor and Southmoor/Kingston Bagpuize.
Leave the A420 (turn left) just after the end of the dual carriageway after
Southmoor. This is signed Pusey and Stanford in the Vale B4508). Follow that road,
through the bad bends in Pusey. Take straight on at Gainfield cross roads, then be
sure to turn left off a bad right-hander, into the village of Stanford in
the Vale. Follow the main route as it winds through the village. There is a
supermarket (CO-OP) on your left, followed by the small post-office on your
right. We are very soon after that, on your left, a large stone house,
recognisable by a low brick wall topped by white railings and a tarmac pull-in.
Walk down the drive to the office in the yard. b. from the East: Leave the M40 at Junction 8 and A40 Westwards (if
you miss this, Junction 8a also works!), then taking the Western ring road.
Follow the Oxford ring-road, to the East side of Oxford, joining the A34
Westwards for one junction and being
sure to leave it at the A420 signs. This is vital and is easy to miss. Take the A420 past Cumnor and Southmoor/Kingston Bagpuize.
Leave the A420 (turn left) just after the end of the dual carriageway after
Southmoor. This is signed Pusey and Stanford in the Vale (B4508). Follow that road,
through the bad bends in Pusey. Take straight on at Gainfield cross roads, then be
sure to turn left off a bad right-hander, into the village of Stanford in
the Vale. Follow the main route as it winds through the village. There is a

N.B.: If coming from the South East, do not be tempted to navigate across-country, via Abingdon or Didcot from other junctions of the M40, because it is much slower and more complicated! The above is the favoured route from S. Bucks, Hertfordshire, Essex and the northern half of London. 10. Approach from the Gloucester/Cheltenham direction: Take the A40 to Burford. Turn right at the roundabout at the top of Burford.
Follow the A361 Southwards to Lechlade. Then, in Lechlade, take a left turn onto
the A417 and follow to Faringdon. At the first mini-roundabout in Faringdon,
turn right into Gravel Walk. Go straight on at next mini-roundabout, into Park
Road. You will come to a roundabout on the A420; turn left. Very soon, turn
right onto the A417. After approx. 4 miles, you come to Stanford in the Vale.

straight on at the roundabout. Just before leaving the village, still on the A417,

Walk down the drive to the office in the yard. [The intrepid among you may wish to go either through Carterton or through Brize-Norton/Bampton, from Burford. N.B.: These two smaller routes do involve testing navigation!] 11. Approach from the Cirencester/Fairford direction: Take the A417 through Lechlade. N.B.: This involves a right turn in Lechlade.
Then follow the A417 to Faringdon. At the first mini-roundabout in Faringdon,
turn right into Gravel Walk. Go straight on at next mini-roundabout, into Park
Road. You will come to a roundabout on the A420; turn left. Very soon, turn
right onto the A417. After approx. 4 miles, you come to Stanford in the Vale.
Leave two turns into the village, on your left. Go
straight on at the roundabout. Just before leaving the village, still on the A417,

Walk down the drive to the office in the yard. 12. Approach from the Highworth direction: Take the B4019 from Highworth, into Faringdon. Turn left at T-junction into
Coxwell Road. Turn right at the first mini-roundabout, into Park Road. You will
come to a roundabout on the A420; turn left. Very soon, turn right onto the
A417. After approx. 4 miles, you come to Stanford in the Vale. Leave two turns
into the village, on your left. Go
straight on at the roundabout. Just before leaving the village, still on the A417, you see a car

drive to the office in the yard. 13. Approach from the Abingdon direction: Take the A415 from Abingdon through Marcham to Kingston Bagpuize. In Kingston
Bagpuize, turn right at the mini-roundabout, for the A420. At the large
roundabout, turn left onto the Westbound A420, heading towards Faringdon &
Swindon. Soon after the end of the dual carriageway, turn left for Pusey and
Stanford in the Vale (B4508). Follow that road, through the bad bends in Pusey. Take
straight on at Gainfield cross roads, then be sure to turn left off a bad
right-hander, into the village of Stanford in the Vale. Follow the main

end of the dual carriageway, turn left for Pusey and Stanford in the Vale
(A4508).
Follow that road, through the bad bends in Pusey. Take straight on at Gainfield
cross roads, then be sure to turn left off a bad right-hander, into the
village of Stanford in the Vale. Follow the main route as it winds through the
village. There is a supermarket (CO-OP) on your left, followed by the small

tarmac pull-in. Walk down the drive to the office in the yard. Park in the tarmac pull-in, if there's space. Otherwise, people park on the opposite side of the road. Mind the traffic when you let your dog out of the car. It is best to attach the lead first. Keep cats in a basket, for their own safety.
