The NATURE VET should only use those substances, reagents and medicines which are compatible with Nature.

At the AVMC, we use no chemical disinfectants, herbicides, insecticides, fertilisers, household reagents or cleaners. We do not use WiFi. We run the premises and associated gardens and smallholding on Organic and Biodynamic principles, in order to give Nature a chance and to reduce the burden on the local ecology and our immune systems.

We believe in giving Nature some space so, while finding our consulting areas and premises hygienic and clean, you will not find them gleaming, posh and manicured.

The AVMC has an Environment Policy.

"Modern man does not experience himself as a part of nature but as an outside force destined to dominate and conquer it. He even talks of a battle with nature, forgetting that, if he won the battle, he would find himself on the losing side."

E. F. Schumacher (1911 - 1977)

Putting the patient first

The AVMC, founded by holistic vet Chris Day, in 1987, is a centre of excellence for the delivery of professional homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, chiropractic and other natural therapies, for the treatment of animals of all species, types and breeds.

Christopher Day qualified as a vet in 1972, having also ‘home-studied’ homeopathy throughout his college years. He had treated himself with homeopathy for injuries and ailments since the age of eleven or twelve.

In the interests of being able to give unfettered and impartial advice, the AVMC and Chris Day receive no kick-backs or sponsorship from industry or commerce, market no products and promote no commercial interest. Our advice is not attended by pushing sales of product. In this way, we are able to offer the best and most impartial/independent advice we can, at any stage and on any topic, updating our outlook in accordance with ongoing development, research and awareness.

Nature's medicines in practice

When looking at Nature in the round, how can we fail to be impressed by the natural phenomena we see? From the simple to the complex, Nature has the capacity to astound. Animals and humans are the product of Nature. Why do we fail to look after Nature and why do we abandon trust in Nature?

At the AVMC, we have a deep respect for NATURE and strive to work with NATURE in all our work, thus harnessing the innate healing capabilities of our patients as best we can, to their health and welfare advantage. We believe that NATURE has the answer to most health problems and we trust in NATURE to help us in our work.

Having a deep respect for animals and Nature vet practice should not use chemicals (cleaners, disinfectants etc.) that damage and degrade the environment and which damage ecology. If we don't care for the environment, ecology and biodiversity, Nature won't care for us. Schumacher said "Man does not experience himself as part of Nature but as an outside force destined to control it and conquer it". This is not a sustainable position and we can but hope for a collective change of attitude, both at the individual level and at the over-arching level of the World Economics view, for a great many if not most of our problems are rooted in the current 'Western' economic paradigm.

Nature is neither 'good' nor 'kind'. Nature is neither 'bad' nor 'cruel'. Nature just is. With it, we're blessed, without it we're stuffed.
