WARNING!

GRAPES for DOGS

Work has been done to show that grapes can be dangerous for dogs. This will come as a surprise to some who feed their dogs grapes but the evidence is difficult to ignore, in spite of its counter-intuitive nature. The same warning must be applied to raisins, currants and sultanas.

It appears that the toxic dose of grapes for a dog is around 30 g/kg and for raisins it is 11 - 30 g/kg.

The damage is done to the kidney but the mechanism is not understood.

While feeding grapes in moderation may be acceptable, the only really safe advice is don't.
